Transactional SMSes will typically be sent to the recipient within a couple of seconds. It may vary from a few seconds to **up to 30 minutes**.

Promotional SMSes on the other hand will take up to** 3 hours** to be sent.

In your dashboard, you can check your SMS delivery status by checking the **Outbox** section: *my.exotel.com/smses/outbox *

If you have sent an SMS using the SMS API, you can check for the status of your message. Details on how to do that can be found here.

A quicker way to determine the status of your SMS would be to search for it in the Outbox itself, using the phone number to which the SMS was sent, or using the SMS SID.

An invalid phone number/ SID would result in the displayed message: Invalid SMS SID or phone number provided in search

An phone number/ SID with no records would result in the displayed message: No SMS found
